Charlie Carnaval has more than 30 years of combined experience in private industry, consulting and interim management. He has advised clients in a variety of industries including professional services, manufacturing, media, retail and agri-business, with revenues ranging from $250 million to $32 billion. His operational experience includes executive level management within the manufacturing and metal fabrication sectors.
Charlie is a financial advisor to Avaya, a $3.7 billion global technology company with approximately $6 billion in debt. He was recently engaged to establish the finance, accounting and HR operations of Relativity TV and to act as interim controller. He assisted a global logistics company on implementing post-merger integration strategies, and an e-discovery, focusing on human resources and transition services. He also advised an eDiscovery firm serving law firms and Fortune 100 general counsels in its transition from parent company systems to standalone operations. He played a key role on the team advising Dewey & LeBoeuf, the largest law firm bankruptcy to date.
In the Friendly’s Ice Cream financial and operational restructuring, Charlie led the Chapter 11 process at the company while evaluating the store footprint and outsourcing alternatives.
Charlie served as CEO of Cygnus Business Media, where he led the company's financial and operational restructuring and drove numerous business improvements, including cost containment, property rationalization and integrated selling efforts, while reinvigorating technology development and promoting new sales programs.
As CFO of Friedman’s Jewelers, Charlie enhanced board reporting, managed the audit process and upgraded cash management and reporting.
Other assignments include Synventive Molding Solutions, where he assessed plant operations and built an operating model that was key to its restructuring solutions; Collins & Aikman, where he served as interim plant controller; S&S Worldwide; Calpine Canada; a $32 billion European utility; and Agway.
Prior to joining Zolfo Cooper, Charlie was CFO of a passenger airline and several manufacturing companies, including a defense contractor. He also spent nine years in public accounting at KPMG.
