Bret Fernandes is a senior director at Zolfo Cooper with over 20 years of financial and operational experience. He has provided interim management and advisory services to troubled companies and their lenders in both bankruptcy cases and out-of-court situations. Bret's expertise covers many areas of restructuring, such as creditor negotiations, liquidity management, financial planning, bankruptcy preparation and reporting, asset disposition and operational wind downs.

Professional Experience

Bret has significant experience in a variety of industries, including energy, media and entertainment, retail, residential mortgage, automotive, health care, manufacturing and telecommunications. Recently, Bret has advised secured lenders in two leading coal company restructurings. He represented the secured lenders in Relativity Media's bankruptcy and successful 363 asset sale of its TV business to those lenders. In other recent engagements, he advised Sabine Oil & Gas on litigation matters and The Dolan Company in its pre-packaged bankruptcy. And he advised the term lenders to Orchard Supply Hardware during its restructuring and sale.

Previously, Bret assisted Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios in developing and negotiating its successful pre-packaged Chapter 11 proceeding. In Blockbuster Inc.'s 363 sale process, Bret advised a potential purchaser in preparing a plan to own, operate and monetize those assets. In the Chapter 11 bankruptcy of American Laser Centers, Bret prepared the company for the 363 sale of virtually all of its operating assets.

He advised American Home Mortgage, previously one of the nation’s largest residential mortgage companies. In addition, Bret advised both Collins & Aikman, a $4 billion auto supplier, and Enron in their bankruptcy reorganizations. Other notable engagements representing either creditor or debtor interests include Dynegy, Rand McNally, American Medical Response and ICG Communications.

Before joining Zolfo Cooper, Bret was a consultant at PwC, performing a range of operational and financial assignments in the health care industry.
